Aluminium Windows, Doors and Showers

It is essential for Powdercoated aluminum to be cleaned on a regular basis to reserve the finish over the years. It should be cleaned at frequent intervals as directed below, depending on the amount of contamination that builds up on the surface. The aim of the cleaning operation is to remove the grime that is deposited onto the surface without causing damage to the finished surface.

The cleaning method depends on the degree and rate of contamination. Hand cleaning is often the best way for small installations, but large expanses of Powdercoated aluminum, as in multi-story building and large commercial projects, call for carefully controlled methods to loosen deposits of dirt and grime.

The Powdercoated surfaces should be washed down with warm water and or other approved cleaners. Fiber brushes may be used to loosen dirt and grime, but abrasive papers such as sand paper or emery paper must not be used. Acidic or alkaline cleaners are also not recommended as they can damage the anodic film. For heavy deposits, approved cleaners may be used, with care, to loosen grime build up. It is also essential to finish off cleaning by thoroughly rinsing all washed surfaces with clean water. Baking Soda and water work well for internal aluminium products, such as shower screen frames.

Where there has been a greasy deposit the surface should be washed with white spirit (Methylated Spirits) using a soft cloth.

Glass and Mirrors

When cleaning glass surfaces, it's essential to take certain precautions. First, remember to remove any jewelry or watches to avoid scratching the glass. Wearing gloves can also help protect the surface from scratches caused by foreign objects, as scratches from such incidents can be permanent and irreparable.

To clean, generously apply a spray-on cleaning solution or a cloth soaked in the cleaning solution, ensuring that the glass surface is thoroughly wet. Next, gently scrub the wetted surface with a clean, lint-free towel or cloth. When it's time to dry, use another clean, lint-free towel or cloth. Avoid using razorblades, steel wool, or any abrasive or metal objects to clean the glass.

To prevent streaking on the glass, stop wiping when the glass is almost dry, leaving a uniform residue of moisture. This residue will quickly evaporate, leaving the glass surface clean and streak free.

  • A simple cleaning solution for glass is 1 parts vinegar and 10 parts water!

Tracks and Sills

Regular cleaning of roller tracks is crucial for extending the longevity of your wardrobes, doors, windows, and barrier doors. By simply removing dust, dirt, and debris, you can significantly enhance the lifespan of the wheels, rollers, and the track itself. Damaged rollers will inevitably cause wear and tear on the track they travel on, so simple maintenance can save you a considerable amount of time and money in the long run.

Avoid using 'wet' lubricants, such as WD-40, on rollers, as they can actually attract dirt, dust, and grime onto the rollers.

Enduroshield Glass Coating

Shower glass needs to be cleaned each week using a damp microfiber cloth and a mild detergent (such as washing up liquid) to remove any soap scum, dirt, or grime from the surface. EnduroShield is designed to be an ‘easy clean coating’ which requires only vinegar and/or a mild detergent that does not contain harsh or toxic chemicals to maintain the surface effectively. Be careful not to use any rough, gritty, abrasive, highly acidic or alkaline cleaners as they may damage the protective coating. This includes products such as Comet (powder), Ajax, or cerium oxide which damage or polish back the actual substrate.

Wardrobe Panels

To clean, wipe down the door or panel using a damp, soft cloth soaked in warm soapy water, followed by drying it with a soft or microfiber cloth to ensure no residue is left behind. If this effectively cleans the surface, there's no need for any additional steps.

For more stubborn stains, use a good-quality, streak-free glass cleaner as per the manufacturers recommendation. Alternatively, you can use Methylated Spirit on a soft cloth, employing a circular cleaning motion, taking care not to rub too hard.
